چکیده

Metaheuristics are gaining increased attention as efficient solvers for hard global optimization problems arising in bioinformatics and computational systems biology. Scatter Search (SS) is one of the recent outstanding algorithms in that class. However, its application to very hard problems, like those considering parameter estimation in dynamic models of systems biology, still results in excessive computation times. In order to reduce the computational cost of the SS and improve its success, several research efforts have been made to propose different variants of the algorithm, including parallel approaches. This work presents an asynchronous Cooperative enhanced Scatter Search (aCeSS) based on the parallel execution of different enhanced Scatter Search threads and the cooperation between them. The main features of the proposed solution are: low overhead in the cooperation step, by means of an asynchronous protocol to exchange information between processes; more effectiveness of the cooperation step, since the exchange of information is driven by quality of the solution obtained in each process, rather than by a time elapsed; optimal use of available resources, thanks to a complete distributed approach that avoids idle processes at any moment. Several challenging parameter estimation problems from the domain of computational systems biology are used to assess the efficiency of the proposal and evaluate its scalability in a parallel environment.

حل مسئله زمان بندی ماشینهای موازی نامرتبط با اهداف کل زودکرد وزنی و کل دیرکرد وزنی با استفاده از الگوریتم جستجوی پراکنده چند هدفه

The parallel machine scheduling problem is an important and difficult problem to be considered in the real-world situations. Traditionally, this problem consists of the scheduling of a set of independent jobs on parallel machines with the aim of minimizing the maximum job completion. In today's manufacturing systems, in which both early and tardy finishing of job processing are undesired, the o...

OPTIMAL DECOMPOSITION OF FINITE ELEMENT MESHES VIA K-MEDIAN METHODOLOGY AND DIFFERENT METAHEURISTICS

In this paper the performance of four well-known metaheuristics consisting of Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), Biogeographic Based Optimization (BBO), Harmony Search (HS) and Teaching Learning Based Optimization (TLBO) are investigated on optimal domain decomposition for parallel computing. A clique graph is used for transforming the connectivity of a finite element model (FEM) into that of the cor...

Scatter Search Algorithms for Identical Parallel Machine Scheduling Problems

We address the Identical Parallel Machine Scheduling Problem, one of the most important basic problems in scheduling theory, and some generalizations of it arising from real world situations. We survey the current state of the art for the most performing meta-heuristic algorithms for this class of problems, with special emphasis on recent results obtained through Scatter Search. We present insi...

Exploring the Accuracy of a Parallel Cooperative Model for Trajectory-Based Metaheuristics

Classical cooperative parallel models for metaheuristics have one major issue when the underlying search method is based on the exploration of the neighborhood of one single solution, i.e., a trajectory-based metaheuristic. Whenever a cooperation step takes place by exchanging solutions, either the incoming or the local solution has to be discarded because the subalgorithm does only work with o...

A Path Relinking-Based Scatter Search for the Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem

Project scheduling has received a growing attention from researchers for the last decades in order to propose models and methods to tackle scheduling problems for real-size projects. In this paper, we consider the resource-constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP), which consists in scheduling the activities in order to minimize the project duration in presence of precedence and resource c...
